Hello from an old-timer

Postby Jabir » Mon May 14, 2018 2:01 pm

Hello everybody,

I am Jabir, one of the founding members of Lux Arcana on Vanguard a decade ago.
In late 2008 I found myself the real-life job of my dreams and decided to leave the MMO community entirely as I found it difficult to enjoy playing when I could not put in the hours I had become used to.

If I should decide to give it a go again, what would be a good game to try?
I'm not crazy about PvP. For me it's all about investigating the world and working together.
Another consideration is that there should be other low level guild members around to party with.

Hey Jabir!

Ah yes the great MMO vs real life situation we've all encountered over the years. The trick is to try and ration your time playing them so you can do other stuff as well! oh look a flying pig!

As to what ones to try, I'm not really the best perspn to ask to be honest as I kinda need pvp in any MMO I play these days, even though I'm not very good. Any MMO without PvP just feels a bit dull for me. That said, plenty of Luxies still enjoy PvE games although we're not playing anything together at the moment. Lots of new ones on the horizon though, although MMOs seems to have such long development you kind lose track as to what is supposed to be coming out :?

Anyway, check in on these forums every once and a while and we'll surely let everyone know the next game.

Good to hear from you.

HI Jabir, definitely long time no see.

I think most of Lux from the Vanguard days are waiting for Pantheon to appear. It looks a lot like Vanguard but on steroids. Could be a lot of fun.

Other than that I've also been out of MMO's for a while although I play Ark on a friends server.

Hi Jabir :)

Welcome back to the forums!

Erm yes, we all know about the flying pig situation. It's best just to give in gracefully

As Pell says, many of us old Vanguard Luxies (shame about our esteemed Belteyn and his current predilection for PvP  ) are waiting for Pantheon.....patiently. From what I hear, it's not likely to be released before next year. Pre-Alpha began in December, and Brad McQuaid wants at least a year of testing so as not to repeat the Vanguard launch fiasco. That said, you can buy a pledge and gain access to Alpha/Beta which is what I have done.

If you are interested here are a couple of links:

Game website
Website FAQ

Other than that I'm not sure. I'm playing ESO to fill in time, and having a blast. But Pantheon is definitely the game on everyone's horizon, and you'll find plenty of old friends there when it eventually arrives :D

Hi Jabir,

Me and a couple other Luxies are still out playing Guild Wars 2 (over 5 years already, so even a lot longer than I played Vanguard), although we don't have a big active guild there, you can do a lot in that and it is free to play (unless you want to play some of the cool expansions).
There is a lot of content that is free to play, so you can easily check out if you like it.
Most content is PvE, although there is also some pvp and wvw (lux goes for wvw every wednesday).
Since the guild does not have that many active members don't expect a lot of low level grouping, but the communtity in GW2 is fairly good and it is always possible to find groups (although you don't need that for most content, everyone just joins in on events, grouped or not).
No trespassing. Violators should notify next of kin. Have a pleasant day.

I'm flabbergasted that you guys remember the Flying Pig Award...
(Those of you who wonder, visit https://www.87th.org/ and read the "Bulldog's Wings" story.)

I have spent a few hours reading everything on the Pantheon site, drooling, and have just now bought a Supporter Pledge with Beta access. The Long Wait begins...

Lol be careful speaking to Aurie, she'll soon persuade you to buy an alpha pledge like me :)

Good to see you though Jabir. Some great times were had in Vanguard and Pantheon really does look like it can fill that void ... and they have gnomes :) :) :) :) The shout of 'SNUGGLES' will soon be heard again

Same as Aurie I am playing and enjoying ESO, tried few others but technical issues (BDO) and game issues (Arche Age) meant I never stayed anywhere long.

OK that' totally crazy, Stray Dogs was my old squadron in the days when combat flight sims were the in-thing. Now it's Space sims, Elite, Star Citizen.

Hey Jabir, great to see you about. :D

Pantheon, what's that? :? Ah yes the next Vanguard... if Brad pulls it off, it just might be that. :)

Yiddo: The price tag aside, alpha testing is not my thing.
I signed up for beta to show my interest in the project and back it with a donation, and to get a chance to learn the mechanics before Lift-Off.
Gnomes, yes... I'll prolly never roll a gnome myself, but one of the most memorable events in Vanguard was the guild's naked gnome race.
And I was soooo close to winning. :x

Nick was 'Prowler' & I recall 'Ghost' was my initial trainer. Was a very long time ago, Stray Dogs have been around for such a long time it's amazing.

FYI I'm still against cruelty towards Rakis!
